2nd UNIVERSITY OF CAPE COAST FACULTY OF
ARTS COLLOQUIUM
THEME: THE HUMANITIES AND INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE IN HEALTH
DATE: 21ST – 23RD MARCH, 2016
FINAL CALL FOR PAPERS
The Faculty of Arts of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies, University
of Cape Coast is organizing its second colloquium to pool intellectual
resources that will contribute immensely to knowledge and policy formulation
related to the Humanities and indigenous knowledge in health. It will bring
together researchers, academics and experts from the Humanities, Medical
Sciences and allied disciplines to disseminate their research findings, share
knowledge and contribute to the development of healthcare provision in Ghana
and other cultural contexts.
The issue of health has mostly been discussed at forums where the
dominant disciplines have been the Sciences. When the individual thinks about
health, it is almost always related to medicine. However, it is worthy to note
that health is closely related to the Humanities because individuals live in
cultures and communicate in varied modes. Apart from orthodox medicine and
health-related communication projects, there are also indigenous philosophies
that inform non-traditional healthcare.
This Colloquium will draw the attention of researchers and healthcare
providers to the needs of the people regarding indigenous health needs and
provision of healthcare. It is very important for societies to relate
healthcare provision to indigenous practices, beliefs and knowledge. That is
why this Colloquium could be seen as important and relevant to the achievement
of the development goals of all countries, especially the developing ones like
Ghana.
Original research papers are invited from interested researchers in the Humanities,
Medical Sciences, Development Studies and Indigenous health practice. The
papers may interrogate issues that link Humanities, Medical Sciences and Development
